Week 1 – ADF Dedicant Path Through the Wheel of the Year #dpwoty

Since Mabon/Autumn Equinox is right around the corner, I decided to begin the workbook right away – week 3 is the first ritual for a Holy Day, and the Equinox is exactly three weeks from now! I actually am keeping both a physical notebook and this blog series (notebook to get my thoughts down first, blog to record and flesh them out further if necessary).

This week’s readings in the #DPWoTY and other resources are basically introductions to the Dedicant’s Path – a very general overview of what I’ll be learning, and some tips to go along the way. There is still some homework, in the form of answering some questions about my path with ADF. Here they are:

  1. Why have you chosen to take the first steps on the Dedicant Path?
  2. Is this a step on your path, or will this become the Path itself?
  3. What do you expect to learn?
  4. What would you like to get out of this journey?
  5. Do you know where this path will take you?
  6. If you have just joined ADF, why have you chosen to work on this immediately? If you have been in ADF for a long time, why are you starting only now?
  7. Does it look hard or easy?
  8. Which requirements appear to be difficult to you now, and which appear to be easy?
  9. Do you have doubts, questions, or concerns that you need to ask about?
  1. A big part of my reason for joining ADF as opposed to a different group at this time was the scholarship aspect that is emphasized. While I have an idea of what I want to do and get from my spirituality, I want to have the knowledge to back myself up beyond the personal experience with deities that I have had, and to just generally increase my knowledge. If you know me in real life, you know how much I enjoy learning for its own sake, and I’m excited for that aspect of this path. All that to say, I’m beginning this right away to get started on that as soon as humanly possible.
  2. As of now, I think this is going to be a step on my path. I do intend to work towards clergyhood (is that the right word?!) through ADF, and will probably go ahead and join AODA once my practice and beliefs are more fleshed out. And that’s just the Druidry side of things! Who knows where I’ll go from here in the other aspects of my spiritual experience!
  3. I’m expecting to learn more about the religious practices of the Ancients, what I believe, and where those two coincide.
  4. I hope to develop strong relationships with deities and spirits (especially my ancestors), clarity about my spiritual path, and just knowledge for its own sake.
  5. I don’t know where this path will take me, but I’m excited to see!
  6. Honestly, when I joined, I kind of assumed that it was required of new members. Now that I see that it is not, it’s just to get started on this path, and out of excitement of joining!
  7. I think it seems pleasantly challenging.
  8. I think most of the essays based on what I will be reading will be relatively easy for me. What will be difficult, to be completely honest, is keeping up with ritual and regular practices. I feel like I’m getting better about these things in normal life though.
  9. None off the top of my head right now. I’m very excited!
